After a week of work, it’s nice to have 30 minutes to sit down with your team members to do something fun, relax a bit and maybe even learn something. It’s a simple team building activity that relieves some of the weekly stress as everyone is joking and enjoying a treat.
And of course, the activities also meet the benefits of team-building and creating cohesion:
- Building Trust
- Easing Conflicts
- Increasing Collaboration
- Effective Communication
In a small office, we see everyone on a daily basis, but don’t always get a chance to chat. The Friday afternoon breaks allow us a time to talk and learn about someone’s random knowledge base or hidden talent. And as the intern, it has given me an opportunity to get to know everyone in the office.
Our office has had a couple weeks of trivia Fridays. On Take Your Dog to Work Day, we did trivia on cartoon dogs, which Kurt edged out Steve to take home the prize. Last Friday, in honor of RAGBRAI heading into Cedar Rapids this week, we did RAGBRAI trivia. Dianne was the big winner, showing us her talent of guessing.
No matter the size of an organization, team-building is important. It gives employees a chance to get to know their co-workers outside of a direct work environment and a chance to relax a bit.
