When Unruly Media came out with its most viewed videos in 2013 (as of Nov. 2013), I felt the need to ask my creative co-workers as to their favorites. Needless to say, we all have very different tastes, but one rose to the top (slightly).
Three staff members chose the Dove commercial. Other than that, we are a house divided. We liked Evian and PepsiMax next followed by PlayStation, Geico, Firefighter Saves Kitten, Volvo, Kmart, and the Coffee Shop.
So what does that say about us? I think it says that we reflect society in general. All of us have different ideas on what resonates with us even though they all spoke to us. You can choose to watch something based on humor, love, humility, impact, romance, or other reasons. I think this just mirrors that our job as marketers and advertisers continues to be to connect with our audience and compel them to an action or belief. Not everyone is interested in everything we have to say. Tells us that we need to know and understand our audience. We need to find our brand advocates and speak to them first. Let’s all try to remember that as we create great material in 2014!
